Windows 8 Launched!

Microsoft on Thursday launched it’s latest Operating System in the form of Windows 8. Even though there have been a number of versions of the new Windows already released by Microsoft in form of Developer Releases and Consumer Previews, the Windows 8 Operating System is finally going to be available for purchase with all the features on board.

Old Windows users, who have at least a Windows XP or a Windows 7 PC, can also upgrade to Windows 8. Those who bought a PC June 2 on wards this year (and till January 31 next year) can upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 for just Rs. 699. Others can update their OS via an electronic software download which will cost Rs. 1,999. The company will provide technical support for Windows 7 till January 14, 2020.

The new Windows by Microsoft was launched in India a couple of hours ahead of it’s launch in the US. The new OS aims at providing faster and better user experience while trying to make it visually appealing as well.

The one big feature of Windows 8 is the Metro UI tabs that will serve as the new “Start” for Windows in Windows 8. The feature even though is appealing to the eye and innovative might not appeal as much to Personal Computer Users for it certainly appears to be a feature for a touch based devices so unless you have a touch based screen for you PC, you might not find the feature as appealing.

The Metro UI feature is certainly going to be a hit amongst Microsoft Surface buyers though. With Microsoft Surface, Microsoft has finally entered into the race of the tablet wars against the other big two technology giants i.e. Apple Inc. and Google Inc. How users will respond to Microsoft Surface still remains to be seen though.

With the iPad Mini, iPad 4th Generation, Microsoft Surface, Nexus 7 already out there and Google coming up with an event on the 29th of October, the tab market is getting really really interesting. Who will come out as the eventual winner is a question that only time will answer.
