Life and the Law of Self-Acceptance:

It’s been a long time since we spoke about life over here at Observer’s Paradise and us accepting this is in a way point of this post as well.

Believe it or not, or rather, accept it or not, we humans live major part of our lives in denial not accepting the fact that deep inside we know to be true and yet deny it just for the sake of it or in many cases, to just prove a point which of course isn’t true!

Life as we know it is a long process comprising of the good, the bad and everything in between but certainly one of the most important part of it is to follow the law of acceptance. Now you might certainly mistake the law of acceptance to accepting each and everything but that’s not what I am talking about, not exactly anyway. The law of acceptance is more basic, at the grass root level. The law of acceptance is about accepting who you actually are as a person. This reminds me of a quote that I read somewhere – “Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today… I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God’s world by mistake” The law of acceptance is about knowing who you really are. There is no doubt about the fact that everyone knows who they really are as a human being and yet many of us just wouldn’t accept it. Let’s face it, there are good people, bad people, weird people, lonely people, happy people, sad people and the list goes on and on but that’s how the world functions doesn’t it. In the world created by God, there is enough diversity amongst people to keep away any sort of monotone. Among the different kinds of people that this world has only a few, very few, people accept who they really are. Self-acceptance, irrespective of you being good or bad, happy or sad is really important. By saying this I do not mean that if you have certain things that are bad in you i.e. certain bad characteristics, all you got to do is accept but unless you accept you certainly won’t be able to work on it! So acceptance is merely a first step towards removing the bad you or at least it will give you the opportunity to start working on it.

Now this reminds me of yet another quote:

Acceptance of one’s life has nothing to do with resignation; it does not mean running away from the struggle. On the contrary, it means accepting it as it comes, with all the handicaps of heredity, of suffering, of psychological complexes and injustices.

Hence, self-acceptance is what will pave the way for you to become a better human being and lead a much happier life for you already know who you exactly are and accepting it will in itself want you to work on it. The fact is we all have good and the bad within us. Some people have anger issues; others have ego issues, anger issues and a number of others and unless you accept, you will never even think of working on it! That’s why following the law of self-acceptance is really important.

I don’t know if I continue even today, always liking myself. But what I learned to do many years ago was to forgive myself. It is very important for every human being to forgive herself or himself because if you live, you will make mistakes- it is inevitable. But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say, ‘Well, if I’d known better I’d have done better,’ that’s all. So you say to people who you think you may have injured, ‘I’m sorry,’ and then you say to yourself, ‘I’m sorry.’ If we all hold on to the mistake, we can’t see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can’t see what we’re capable of being. You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one’s own self. I think that young men and women are so caught by the way they see themselves. Now mind you. When a larger society sees them as unattractive, as threats, as too black or too white or too poor or too fat or too thin or too sexual or too asexual, that’s rough. But you can overcome that. The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself. If we don’t have that we never grow, we never learn, and sure as hell we should never teach. –Maya Angelou

With self-acceptance comes loving self. If you accept yourself for what you are, you will automatically start loving yourself for whatever you are. You will admire the good in you and believe it or not, start working towards eliminating the flaws in an attempt to come close to perfection. Another thing that does come along with self-acceptance is the acceptance by people around you. If you accept yourself for the way you are, people around you will certainly accept you too!

So follow the law of acceptance, admire the good in you and let the self-acceptance automatically help you eliminate the flaws. Life is a long process so follow the law of self-acceptance for a happier today.
