No respite for India despite Kohli’s ton!

Not many get an opportunity to score their first test hundred overseas, let alone manage to get that in Australia’s own backyard!  It took India more than three test matches to find their first centurion and not many would placed their money on Virat Kohli for that!

The Delhi lad has eight centuries next to his name in the One Day format but it took him nearly ten test matches to achieve that feat in the Test arena where the true success of a player is determined. Critics had blasted him off after the second test match questioning his place in the side and now he is the highest run scorer for India in this test series. The manner in which he went about scoring his runs would have delighted any Indian supporter if the team wasn’t going through such a rough patch.

He spent a few nervous moments on ninety nine when he was survived ten anxious minutes. Finally he managed to cut the field drive it though the covers and thus began the ecstatic celebrations. He received some valuable support from Saha, Ashwin and Ishant Sharma who stuck long around long enough.

Kohli’s hundred was the only silver lining in India’s innings. Apart from him, none of the Indian batsmen managed to make an impression. Yet again, they were bowled out for under 300 which gave Australia a healthy lead of 332 runs. The two overnight bastmen, Tendulkar and Gambhir couldn’t stand tall against an impressive Australian seam attack. Peter Siddle was the chief destroyer picking up five wickets for only 49 runs! Hilfenhaus and Harris did the rest.

Besides the massacre in Perth, the Australian top three haven’t done much. It’s the next three that have caused India the trouble. At the end of the day’s play Australia were 50/3.  Another whitewash is on the cards.
