Teri Meri Kahaani : Movie Review

Rating: 1/5

So let us begin this review by being proud of ourselves for Teri Meri Kahaani turned out to be exactly how we thought it would – Crap with a cherry made of more crap on top! So we pat our own backs for being right and then kick our own ass for going to the theatre to watch the movie!

Teri Meri Kahaani is a love story or rather three love stories in one from three different generations, one of 2012, one of 1960 and one of 1910. The movie opens with the 1960 one and to put it plainly- didn’t arouse any sort of interest nor did it bind us emotionally or otherwise. Bollywood movies seem to have a knack of not doing anything whatsoever. Teri Meri Kahaani was stagnant for most part especially during the first story i.e. the 1960 one.

The entire two-hour-long kahaani spans three different eras: 1910 in Lahore, 1960 in Mumbai and 2012 in England. Each story differs from another and narrates the love tale of a couple who bump into each other by sheer destiny, fall in love, face a ‘minor’ hurdle that brings them on a verge of separation but they overcome it and re-unite for good each time. And that is that! There are no spoilers to give away nor anything that we can say or anything that will arouse any sort of interest.

To be really honest, I haven’t liked any Kunal Kohli movie till date. Even though Hum Tum and Fanaa were blockbusters, they certainly didn’t touch the strings of my heart to say the least. He is thought to bring about an entirely new generation of films- romance with a different style and to put it simply, I don’t like the style! Anyhow, Teri Meri Kahaani has virtually nothing of interest.

Trying to pull off three love stories in a single movie when none of them has anything interesting to them says all about how flat the movie really was. Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor were fine as far as their acting skills are concerned but in a movie that is supposed to be a love story with not much emotion involved, acting certainly can’t save the movie from dying out. They both look good though and yet we wouldn’t term it as a positive for looking good didn’t do any good to the movie. Teri Meri Kahaani was still as unbearable as it could get.

Okay now that on the whole the movie was nothing but crap let’s try to dissect the movie by parts i.e. the three stories that were in it and try and find something positive but it appears to be a very tedious tasks from where we see it.

The 1960 story shows glimpse of cuteness despite being stupid and irritating at certain points. Shahid Kapoor bumps into Priyanka Chopra, the superstar, on a train to Mumbai from Pune or Poona and surely it doesn’t take much for them to fall in love and what happens there after is nothing but crap and plain boring other than the song ‘Jabse mere dil ko uff’ which did wake us up while we were on brink of dozing off. We tend to believe that it was a deliberate move by the editor for he too might have dozed off by then and needed to add the song right at the moment to keep the crowd awake.

Coming to the second story that they showed, 2012 story. Now this one did appear realistic for it had Facebook, it had twitter, it had BBM and it had glimpse of everything about how the current generation seems to fall in love or rather consider it falling in love, everyone has their own opinion about this one. But then again, the first few minutes of this story were good and then it went to become just like the rest of the movie- crap!

The 1910 story too showed glimpse of being a little good for about the first two minutes. The opening note, the shayari with which the story was moving along did give it some sense and some meaning but then all we got were SMS forward shayaris that left us thumping our heads irritated every time Shahid Kapoor spoke for everytime he did, it was shayari coming out! A couple of them were good though and we wouldn’t deny that.

The first quarter of the movie was about the three stories setting in and the separation while the remaining one fourth was about giving all of them a happy ending but the stories were such that one just couldn’t wait for the movie to end!

All in all, Teri Meri Kahaani, put in three simple words- bad and crap! There is nothing whatsoever that interests us. We hoped for the second half to be better than the first and little less bad but to our dismay it was equally bad! We give Teri Meri Kahaani 1/5 from us at Observer’s Paradise. 0.5 for the couple of good songs while the other 0.5 for the couple of good shayaris even though they later got irritating. Our final verdict of the movie (if it isn’t already clear), if you have nothing whatsoever to do in the world and feel like watching a movie, stay home and watch Doremon instead or rather go in for Gangs of Wasseypur for we expect it to be good and four times better than this crap if not more!
