Warner Washout over Deccan!

Even a total of 187 ,which is a formidable one on any day, wasn’t enough to scare the Delhi batsmen who surpassed this total in exactly 100 balls with nine wickets in hand. Leading the pack was the pocket size dynamite David Warner who scored his second IPL hundred.

It was a day which was completely owned by the batsmen. The Deccan batting was starred by Delhi’s own Shikhar Dhawan who has been devastating in this year of the IPL. He has been consistent for the Deccan this season and he exhibited some exquisite batting up front. He was supported by Deccan’s second highest run getter, Cameron White. If for nothing,he has certainly managed to knock the doors of the selectors back in Australia. At the completion of the first 10 overs, they were at 64-2. The next 10 yielded 123 runs! The left-right combination didn’t allow any of the bowlers to settle and even Morne Morkle, who got the purple cap back, was taken to task. The Delhi bowlers were foxed by the contrasting styles of the two players in the middle. While one relied on  timing, the other dependent on brute power. Though Dhawan truly deserved a hundred, he was run out while attempting a quick single.

Due to his heroics while batting,Dhawan was given charge to bowl the first over. The very first ball was hit straight over the bowler’s head by the Delhi captain who doesn’t need any sort of a look out as far as the pitch is concerned. Dhawan however, had his revenge the very next ball as Sehwag tried to dislodge it over  mid wicket but could get it as far the fielder at the 30 yard circle. That was the only success that Deccan were to taste for the entire session.

Warner started the show by stylishly driving the ball towards covers. He had the company of Naman Ojha who was sent above Jayawardene, a move that must have surprised many. He slowly grew in confidence by just watching the phenomenal hitting that was happening from the other end. Warner exposed the inexperience that was present in Deccan line up. They made the grave mistake of dropping Dale Steyn, something they would have regretted later on. He cut,he pulled, he drove while Sangakkara could watch only watch in dismay. Along with Ojha, he share a stand of 189 which is the second highest in the history of DLF IPL after Gilchrist and Marsh shared a record stand of 206 runs.

With this win the Delhi Daredevils, are back at the top of the table to dominate the proceedings. It also showed that the entire team does not depend on Sehwag to win matches for them all the time.
