It’s great news for Formula 1 fans. Kimi Raikkonen is coming back to f1. The Finnish driver who won the F1 championship in 2007 has announced his comeback and will be joining the Lotus Renault team for 2012 season. Raikkonen who signed a 2 year contract with Lotu Renault will definitely boost up the hopes and excitement of the Lotus Renault team.
This is what Raikkonen said in an interview
“I’m delighted to be coming back to Formula 1 after a two-year break, and I’m grateful to Lotus Renault GP for offering me this opportunity
“My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career as a driver, but I can’t deny the fact that my hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming.
“It was an easy choice to return with Lotus Renault GP as I have been impressed by the scope of the team’s ambition. Now I’m looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid.”
Raikkonen has won 18 races and has 62 podiums and 16 pole positions to his name.
Team owner Gerard Lopez was pretty excited with Kimi’s return to F1 and he said that the Lotus Renault tam will be coming with several more announcement which will turn them into a serious contender in the future.
So, the coming season of F1 will have another world champion joining the pack and if Ferrari, Mercedes and Mclaren find a way to match their cars with red-bull we can have a heck of a season.
