Name : Virtua Tennis Challenge
Platform : Android, iOS
Cost : 4.99$
Virtua Tennis Challenge is by far the best Lawn Tennis game that you might ever encounter for your Android or iOS device. Stick Tennis too is pretty good but then it certainly isn’t as challenging as Virtua Tennis Challenge. The game which has been available for iOS devices for quite some while and was available for few Android devices has recently been updated to support Tegra 3 devices which has scaled up the profile of the game along with making the users of high performance Tegra 3 devices happy.
Virtua Tennis Challenge has a lot to offer. There are three modes to choose from:
- SPT World Tour – Now this is where you choose a player and climb your way up the ranks while winning various tournaments around the globe. This is one mode that is sure to keep you hooked till the time you actually reach the pinnacle of fame becoming the world number 1 and once you are done doing that, you might play to retain the spot too! At least that’s what we have been doing! That’s how addictive the game actually is!
- Exhibition Match- This is basically a means of practicing before going in for a competition at the SPT World Tour Level. So we will rather call this a training match than an Exhibition Match.
- Multiplayer Mode- Now this is the mode that we love the most and spend more than a couple of hours playing every single day. The ability of the game to connect the game using Bluetooth to another device having the game makes the game as amazing as it could get. To our own surprise, we didn’t find even half a second of lag on either of the device while playing the game.
All these modes certainly have a lot to offer but all of them do have their shortcomings.
Even though SPT World Tour is good and addictive, the fact that you have to choose a player and take it to heights decreases the interest. Providing the ability to create a player, being able to customize the look, the clothes, the rackets, the style of play would have made it all the more interesting. Also, there is no way of practicing different shots or training sessions to increase skill levels and skill points. This would have been a feature that would have been challenging and made the SPT World Tour and whole lot more fun than it already is.
Coming to the Multiplayer Mode, we miss the ability of adding 4 players to a single game. Playing doubles would have been so much more fun. Even though the singles mode still is ample fun. Also, the cross platform inability of playing multiplayer mode is a let down. We are pretty sure it is more of an Apple issue than the game issue. Also, the ability to pause the game is missing. There are moments when one of the players or both might want to pause the game for a while but the mode lacks the ability. Another thing that did annoy us a little was the replay. There is no way of disabling them either. So these are a few things that need to be looked at as far as Multiplayer Mode is concerned.
Coming to the look of the game, for a mobile platform game, it is as realistic as it could get. There are no sluggish ends or any issue with the game while you are playing it. Also, the realism with the timing and the angling of the shots makes the game all the more realistic and makes you want to get all your shots right. The game makes you earn your points against quality opponents which speaks volumes about the difficulty of the game.
All in all, as stated right at the top, this is the best lawn tennis game that exists for iOS and Android at the moment. It has its flaws but none of them are related to the game play of the game which makes Virtua Tennis Challenge a must have for any sports game or lawn tennis lover. Priced at 5$ it might look a tad expensive but it certainly is worth buying. We give Virtua Tennis Challenge 4 on 5 from us at Observer’s Paradise.
