You must have searched Google for a messenger which lets you chat with your facebook friends without signing in into your account on facebook.com, and in your search results you must have been able to find a hundred of apps which would have served your purpose. But, some of you must have Social Security a priority over ‘ease to chat’ feature. Also, other third party applications wouldn’t notify you about any activity taking place in your account. For such people, Voila! Facebook has introduced their own Messenger for Windows (PC with Windows 7 Only) which brings Facebook to your desktop.
With Facebook Messenger installed on your PC, While you surf the web or use other applications on your computer, you can:
Chat and message with your friends on Facebook
See the latest updates from your friends in ticker
Get quick notifications about what’s going on
Messenger lets you use Facebook without being on www.facebook.com. It let’s you stay in touch with your Social Family on Facebook anytime, no matter what you’re doing.
Now the question stands: How to Install?
Well, Facebook has started rolling out notifications for public about their new Messenger App for Windows and a Message will flash on your Chat Sidebar to Install the Application and Chat right from your desktop.
Or Else, You can Download it from.
A .exe file name Facebook Messenger Setup will be downloaded into your Downloads folder.
Double Click on the file and follow the on-screen instructions.
The normal Installation looks like the following:
And within a minute, the application will be installed and you’ll be able to see the quick start icon in the quick Launch tray and the Application in the taskbar.
Voila! Now you are ready to chat and always stay in Touch without being forced to log into your account on facebook.com.
The messenger has the most controversial ‘tickr’ on top which keeps rolling with recent updates. While it was a bit annoying on the website, It is pretty useful in the app as it keeps you updated about whats going on on the live Site. Although Stalkers will continue to Stalk, Genuine people might find it a bit useful.
A separate Chat Box opens up whenever you click on any of your friends name to chat. Also, Additional chat windows opens up as a tab in the same window, making it a compact version of facebook chat experience.
Adding to the chat feature, you get live notifications on the right bottom corner of your screen in the same way as you have been getting in the left bottom corner on the live site.
Also, you have the feature to Dock the messenger permanently onto your right, which allows the messenger to be always on top in the right side of all the other application you use.
Well, the features developed until now have surely impressed us, but Talking about the Cons of the Messenger App,
- You can use the messenger only if you use Windows 7 on your computer. The developer Team is still working on the Vista platform whereas, there is no sign for an app for Windows XP platform.
- Once you Log Out of the messenger, to re login, you’ll have to search the app in the Windows search bar to open up and log in. There ain’t any Widget or Desktop Icon inclusive in the Installer.
- Although you can chat and message with individual friends, see what’s going on in ticker and get quick notifications about Facebook activity in Messenger. Chatting with multiple friends, video calling, limiting chat availability and editing settings are not currently available through the app. You will have to do these by going to in your web browser.
Still, Facebook Messenger Developer Team has a long way to go before the App becomes a hit with the users and We feel that they will not disappoint its Users. Till then, Keep Chatting people. 🙂
