iOS 6 : Apple to bring in it’s own 3-D Maps?

A couple of weeks ago, Apple announced about it’s WWDC event., the event that will take place from 11th to 15th June in San Fransisco. Now even though there have a been a number of speculations as to what will Apple be coming up with in WWDC, it appears iOS 6 is sure to be one of them. Today, a rumour, for it can not be termed official just yet, stated that Apple is going to drop out Google Maps in the update and will be using it’s own in house Map system. What that  means, is that they will be dropping out Google from the backend of the Maps application and will be working on it on their own. Even though it is being said that the application design will be pretty similar to the current application but the one big thing that is supposed to come in the application is the 3D mode!

The 3D mode would mean the map will show a 3D model of the location that you are looking for i.e. a virtual 3D map system. It’s no big secret that Apple wants to get away from its dependency on Google Maps in iOS — the company has bought several mapping companies over the last few years, and iPhoto for iOS launched in March with maps provided by the OpenStreetMap foundation.

As per 9to5mac.com, Apple’s own maps system is because of it’s purchase of Placebase, C3 Technologies, and Poly9; acquisitions that Apple has used to create a complete mapping database. It is also rumoured that when the new Maps application is launched, it will be launched with a new logo. The new logo will be basically a redesigned version of the current iOS Maps icon with a view of Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop Campus, but redrawn with a new color scheme.

What is true and will Apple come up with the new Maps application in WWDC that is to take place in June still remains to be seen but if and when it does, it most definitely will make people want an Apple device all the more.
